If you are not a certified rafting guide but wish to become one, please read the information below about our guide training program, completion of which is required for anyone without previous guiding experience.

Our training will give candidates the skills and know-how to perform the job of a river rafting professional. However, proper attitude and an outstanding work ethic are traits that must already be possessed. If this is your first year seeking employment as a river guide, you will need to attend our guide training. The cost is free and it begins annually early May and is approximately four weeks. We offer a flexible training program for both the Provo and Weber Rivers. Minimum age is 17 to start training but must be 18 by mid June. We also provide CPR and First Aid certifications for those that successfully perform during the rafting training sessions.

Please note that acceptance into our training program does not guarantee employment. The successful completion of the training program along with your attitude and work ethic will determine your employment with HCA. If hired, training will continue on the Provo and Weber Rivers until you are ready to guide commercially (usually one to two weeks). Once you have completed the training and your ‘Check-Out Run,’ a first year guide can average between $15 and $25 hour (the biggest factor is guide gratuities and willingness to work weekends and holidays)

High Country Adventures is licensed by the Department of Parks and Outdoor Recreation, and managed by the Deer Creek State Park.

All trainees are required to have a minimum of Red Cross Basic First Aid and CPR certifications before their first commercial trip for HCA. These certifications are included for those who finish guide training. Advanced certifications and CDL Drivers License are not only taken into consideration during the application process, but they will also result in pay increases.
